Land West of Eynsham

West Oxfordshire, Kemp & Kemp

OPEN was appointed in 2014 to develop proposals for residential development on a site to the west of Eynsham, a large village located in the south-east of the West Oxfordshire District Council area. The well-contained site offers the potential for a high value development that has views and an outlook into the surrounding countryside that is rarely found elsewhere Eynsham. Given the existing landscape features such as hedgerows, mature trees and the Chil Brook, the site lent itself to a soft approach which best responds to its rural edge location whilst allowing a particular identity to emerge. OPEN undertook a comprehensive study of the site and its context, identifying opportunities and constraints and assessing its capacity to accommodate change and residential development. A careful study of the pattern, grain and character of the village was undertaken in order to progress outline designs that are appropriate to the location on the edge of Eynsham and suggest how a high quality and distinctive development might emerge. The proposals were subject to significant public consultation prior to the lodging of an Outline Planning application in September 2015 for residential development of up to 160 dwellings. The application is currently being determined.
