Scotland’s National Showground - East Entrance Boulevard

Ingliston, Edinburgh, Royal Highland and Agricultural Society of Scotland (RHASS)

OPEN was commissioned to carry out the detail design of the East Entrance Boulevard and space as the first phase of infrastructure works incorporated in the masterplan for Scotland’s National Showground. OPEN led the team in preparing detail design proposals suitable for statutory approvals and construction for this 500m long boulevard and entrance space. The design exercise also incorporated the servicing needs for future development plots, catering for up to 50,000sqm of new hotels, offices, and retail opportunities.

The east entrance boulevard and space will set the standard for future landscape and infrastructure works throughout Scotland’s National Showground and also the wider west Edinburgh development area. This imposing landscape design aims to create a direct physical and visual link between Eastfield Road (main entrance to Edinburgh International Airport) and the heart of Scotland’s National Showground which is the historic Ingliston House. This will start to create a grand estate like spatial structure, an aim of the original masterplan, and begin to establish a recognisable place at this important gateway to Edinburgh and Scotland, and ensure a structure for future flexible use.
