Argyll Array Offshore Windfarm

, ScottishPower Renewables

OPEN was commissioned by ScottishPower Renewables (SPR) in 2011 to undertake the seascape, landscape and visual aspects of the EIA for its proposed Argyll Array Windfarm.

In response to requests from the public on Tiree, SPR asked open to produce photomontages of the proposed Argyll Array Offshore Windfarm to display at public exhibitions held in Tiree in June 2011. The purpose of the photomontages was to give an initial impression of the potential scale of the Argyll Array project and to seek the views of people on Tiree and Coll.

OPEN produced photomontage display boards and attended the public exhibition on Tiree to explain how the initial photomontages were produced and describe the proposed approach to further work on the visual impacts of the development.

The layout generated for the initial photomontages only considered the absolute constraints and was not intended as the final proposed layout for the project.

Several photomontages were displayed at the public exhibitions and two potential layouts were shown – one with 300 x 6MW turbines and one with 180 x 10MW turbines. The photomontages for both layouts also show offshore sub-stations that may be required by this scale of development.

SPR is no longer proceeding with proposals for an offshore Windfarm on this site.
