Stuart Cargill

Landscape Architect

Stuart joined OPEN in January 2015 and prior to this he had been working as a Landscape Architect at AECOM in Edinburgh. Graduating from Edinburgh College of Art with a Masters of Landscape Architecture in 2005, Stuart has provided landscape architecture and landscape planning consultancy services to clients from both private and public sectors for over 9 years, becoming a Chartered Member of the Landscape Institute (CMLI) in 2010.

Stuart’s particular expertise lies within Landscape and Visual Impact Assessment (LVIA) for energy, renewables, infrastructure, residential, minerals and waste developments. Within this area Stuart has diverse project experience across a mix of rural or urban contexts throughout the UK and across the following stages of the planning process - origination and site selection; site feasibility and site de-risking; providing expert design advice to clients throughout project lifespan; writing and managing LVIA’s; mitigation proposals; restoration strategies; and the provision of photomontages and supporting visualisation material.

Stuart’s varied experience in LVIA is reflected in his ability to work closely in multi-disciplinary teams to ensure that a fully integrated and flexible approach to design and assessment is achieved. Through his considerable LVIA experience, which includes post planning advice and written appeal work, Stuart understands the necessity for a rigorous and robust assessment process, consistently delivering work that could withstand challenge and scrutiny at all stages of the planning process.
