Scott Thomson

Landscape Architect

Scott graduated from Edinburgh College of Art with an MA(hons) in Landscape Architecture in 2008, and has subsequently become a Chartered Member of the Landscape Institute (CMLI). During his studies Scott undertook professional internships at Gillespies - Glasgow, HCG Design - Florida, USA, and Murray & Associates - Dublin, Ireland, where he was involved in the redevelopment of St Andrew Square and the Grassmarket public spaces in Edinburgh, the Vero Beach Hotel resort on Florida’s Atlantic Coast, and the Dun Laoghaire Promenade competition in Dublin.

After graduating Scott joined the Environment Team at Scott Wilson’s Edinburgh office, where he developed skills in public realm design and construction. Completed projects include South Shields Foreshore for South Tyneside Council, West Blackhall Street in Greenock for Riverside Inverclyde, and the Duthie park Restoration in Aberdeen on behalf of Aberdeen City Council. This was followed by a move to HarrisonStevens Landscape Architects in Edinburgh where he gained extensive experience in projects of wide ranging scale and subject, from prominent public realm developments, and social hosing schemes, to temporary installations on urban gap sites. Scott was project Landscape Architect on Holyrood North, an award winning mixed use development for the University of Edinburgh in the UNESCO Old and New Towns of Edinburgh World Heritage Site.

Since joining the team at OPEN in July 2016, Scott has worked on several high profile landscape design projects, notably at Quartermile, the Haymarket, Donaldson’s College in Edinburgh, and the new V&A at Dundee. Scott is also project landscape architect for a new visitor facing masterplan for the Highland Wildlife Park in the Cairngorms National Park, and is involved in the St Andrews West Masterplan.
