Mark graduated from Queens University, Belfast in 2008 with a MSc (Distinction) in Urban Design and Masterplanning. Mark’s wide-ranging experience has helped him practice his passion for urbanism, placemaking and delivering exciting new and high quality developments.

His early experience included working for BDP Manchester on a number of UK and International projects at a variety of spatial scales. A number of interesting UK projects included town-centre regeneration frameworks for both Ashton-Under-Lyne and Oldham; private and public sector residential masterplans for Preston, Warrington and Hull Ings; as well as a number of mixed use residential-led regeneration frameworks within Manchester City Centre. Mark was also involved in a number of international projects including the review and update of the King Abdullah University of Science & Technology (KAUST) Masterplan in Saudi Arabia; a number of large scale strategic development framework masterplans across China and the middle east; as well as a retail-led masterplan in Bangkok, Thailand.

Prior to joining OPEN at the start of 2017, Mark worked for UK based Planning Consultancy Turley for over three years, based in Manchester but working across the UK. Whilst there he was involved most recently in a Sustainable Urban Extension to the south of Whiston, Merseyside, a number of Neighbourhood Development Frameworks for Manchester City Council, Strategic Employment Frameworks as well as the delivery of a number of residential-led masterplans ranging from strategic land promotion, site advocacy and planning applications.

Mark believes in the role that design, plays in creating successful, sustainable places whilst also being able to unlock potential and deliver high quality development. He firmly believes that design can transform environments in a responsive and desirable way. He is currently the Urban Design Group representative for the North West, where he raises awareness of the latest developments being realised within the North West through a series of events, tours and workshops. He also participates in a number of regional and European design competitions, allowing him to experiment and refine his design skills.
