Lynda Thomson

Director

Lynda Thomson is a Chartered Member of the Landscape Institute and a Director of Optimised Environments Limited (OPEN). Prior to her joining the office in 2009 she was a Senior Director at AECOM Design + Planning (formerly EDAW). She has worked with her fellow Directors James and Pol for over 12 years through their transition from Lovejoy to EDAW and now as OPEN.

Lynda has been involved in a wide range of projects from the construction of the Urquhart Castle Visitor Centre to the landscape design for the Winchburgh Future Expansion Masterplan. More recently she has concentrated predominantly on the planning and assessment of large scale proposals such as utilities infrastructure, headquarters and new settlements. Skills in Landscape and Visual Impact Assessment (LVIA) resulted in Lynda’s involvement in the London 2012 Olympics and Legacy development. While at EDAW she led a large team within the Edinburgh office to carry out the LVIA for this complex set of evolving proposals.

LVIA work has included the determination of the landscape capacity for development, design development, the preparation of the LVIA chapter for Environmental Statements and productions for Planning Inquiries. She has appeared as an expert witness at Public Inquiries on behalf of Scottish Water and has a particular interest in renewable energy having been involved in the preparation and management of LVIA for over fifteen wind farm proposals in the past twelve years. Lynda was a speaker at the British Wind Energy Association’s Planning for Wind Energy seminars to public sector officials in England and has lectured on the subject of landscape and visual assessment to college students. She has also acted as a consultant to Scottish Natural Heritage.
