Chris Sholdis

Landscape Architect

Born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, Chris studied Architecture at Newcastle University. After graduating in 2010 he spent six months working for a leading Architecture practice in Belfast, where he was involved in all aspects of the design process from concept to production drawings.

Subsequently, he completed a two year Postgraduate Master’s Degree in Landscape Architecture at the University of Edinburgh. His final year project focused on the redevelopment of a disused sixteen acre industrial site in Belfast. Integral to this project was the interaction between the site and the adjacent river Lagan, which provided a means to connect the city centre to the wider region.

During his time at university Chris completed an architectural dissertation focusing on Landscape Urbanism. It is this area in which he has a particular interest; the juxtaposition between the built and natural environment, most notably within an urban context. His background in both Architecture and Landscape enables him to have a unique understanding of the relationship between the two.

Chris joined OPEN in March 2014 having taken time off to travel extensively in Europe and Africa. Since joining OPEN Chris has been involved in a number of projects at both the masterplanning and detail design scales. The wide range of projects undertaken by OPEN has afforded Chris the opportunity to both expand his key interests, and develop professionally within a variety of areas across all disciplines.
